  • Introduction to Period Pains

Most women experience some degree of pain during their menstrual periods, commonly known as period pains. These pains typically manifest as painful spasms or cramps felt in the lower abdomen, back, and thighs. The intensity of the pain can vary significantly, ranging from dull discomfort to severe pain that disrupts daily activities.

  • What to Expect

Period pains often begin at the start of the menstrual cycle or a few hours prior, usually settling down by the first or second day when menstrual flow starts. This pain occurs because the uterus contracts in spasms to open the cervix. Once the flow begins, the discomfort typically eases.
