Human Papilloma Virus (HPV) is a virus that can be passed from one person to another through skin to skin contact. The commonest way it spreads is by sex i.e. vaginal oral or anal. The family of HPV is very big and there are many strains.
Pelvic inflammatory disease (PID) is an inflammation in the pelvis. It involves the uterus, tubes ovaries and the pelvic area. It usually starts with an infection in the vagina and the cervix and then travels upwards to affect the pelvic organs.Pelvic inflammatory disease is said to be acute when there is sudden or severe inflammation of the uterus, fallopian tubes, ovaries and pelvic area due to infection. When it persists for a long time then it is said to be chronic.
Osteoporosis is a progressive bone condition wherein there is loss of bone mass which leads to decrease in bone strength. They become brittle, weak and more susceptible to fracture. The bones undergo change throughout life. Up to age of 30 bone is made and very little is broken down. After age of 30, it is broken down faster. This loss is further aggravated after menopause.
Vaginal inflammation and infection can happen to women of all ages but it is most common in women of reproductive years. The vagina normally has certain bacteria and yeast that live in the vagina and are in harmony with the body.
Mastalgia is the medical name for breast pain. It is normal for women to have 2-3 days of mild breast pain just before their menstrual period. It normally settles with the onset of period flow. Some women have pain severe enough to interfere with their normal activities. They may not feel comfortable even with a slight touch to the breast.
The lining of the uterus changes throughout the menstrual cycle in response to the hormones (oestrogen and progesterone) that is produced by the ovaries. Oestrogen is made before the egg ovulates and progesterone is made after the egg ruptures. Oestrogen enables the lining to grow and progesterone enables the lining to store glycogen. As and when the fertilized egg comes along, the lining can nourish it and enable it to attach itself to the uterus and thus grow. If fertilization has not happened, then the hormone levels decrease and the lining is eventually shed as a period.

An Ectopic Pregnancy is when a pregnancy starts to grow outside the uterus. Normally the sperm and egg meet in the fallopian tube. PCOS is an endocrine and metabolic disorder. It is considered in any woman with acne, hirsutism, menstrual irregularity, or obesity. Patients with PCOS, have anovulation, i.e. they may not produce a follicle cyclically. They may therefore present with primary amenorrhea (i.e. no periods at all), too few periods (oligomenorrhea) or secondary amenorrhea i.e. absence of periods for six months or more. Some may also have excessive, frequent and irregular bleeding (dysfunctional uterine bleeding).
